Haunted Houses

Aftermath
It seemed as though it had been a bad dream.
Calvin slowly rose from the ground, rubbing the knot on his head. Where was he? How had he gotten there? As he stood, he noticed nothing but thick, orange fog swirling around him and steam or smoke rising from buildings in the distance. Where was everyone? It was as though he was in another dimension. Calvin got up and started shuffling down the road. It was crumbling. Sounds started filtering through the orange abyss. The sounds swirled around in his ears. Birds screeching or people screaming? It was not immediately obvious and that made Calvin even more uneasy.
As he continued walking, he thought he saw a figure approaching him in the distance. The form got closer and he recognized her. Meg, his girlfriend. Now he remembered, before he woke up the last thing he remembered was walking with her, on their way to an anniversary dinner. Meg got closer and something seemed off. He screamed her name and she continued to approach him, but seemed not to hear him. There was foam on the sides of her mouth and her eyes looked blank, empty. Calvin began to back away. This was not his Meg. Suddenly a net fell from the sky, knocking Meg to the ground and trapping her.
Another figure came from the darkness. "Speak," he said. "Hello," Calvin replied. At that, the man grabbed him and brought him to the ground. There had been an accident, he explained. An underground government research facility was compromised and all of their inmates had escaped. Suddenly the world was turned upside down. No one left could be trusted. They may be infected. Calvin and the stranger proceeded into the fast-approaching darkness in search for a place to spend the night.
The next day, if they made it that far, they would embark on a mission to survive the Aftermath.

The Haunted Heist
Debut: 2013
"A group of archaeologists set out on a mission to find ancient artifacts and skeletal remains that had been lusted over for years by people in their profession, but never attained. With the right equipment and some courage, they were confident that they would return home with the remains and make a name for themselves among their friends and colleagues. When they arrived at the entrance to the dig site, it seemed abandoned, which was strange because they had been scheduled to meet the dig master.
They were too eager to wait for anyone to return, so they set up their campsite and descended into the cave to find what they’d come to uncover. Maps had been created and passed on by those who had ventured there before but instead of following the map, the group took an alternate route. The path became dark and slippery very quickly, and they knew there was no turning back. At the end of the path seemed to be a light and they headed toward it. As they got closer the leader realized there was a beam of light extending out and placed his arm through it.
Before anyone knew what was happening there was an avalanche of rocks and as hard as they tried to run back out the way they had come, the path was too dark and slippery. Cracks in the walls yielded more light and every time they crossed a light more rocks began to fall. Now the cave is open to visitors and spectators to pay respect to those brave archaeologists who lost their lives that day. However, the spirits of the ancient remains don’t like all of the company and shine their lights just trying to catch someone off guard to trigger another avalanche of rocks."
Total Darkness
Debut: 2013
"Every town has a group of teenagers that seek thrills for breakfast, lunch and dinner and can never leave well-enough alone. It made them popular among the kids at school, but it was only a matter of time before something went wrong. One afternoon they decided to break in to the old, abandoned house at the top of the hill on the dead-end road on the edge of town. Rumor had it that the old man who lived there had been there for four weeks, dead as a doornail, before he was finally discovered – and now the house was haunted.
This daring group set off on a fall evening, storms lurking, to prove the rumor wrong. However, as soon as they entered the house, the severe storms surfaced and took out the only power plant in the whole county. Just like that, they were in total darkness. They turned on their flashlights and carried on, but it wasn’t enough to see the danger that lurked ahead. Those adventurous teenagers should have turned around, because they never returned home and they were never found. To this day, people of the town say they can still see the flashlights waving, as if their spirits are signaling for help."
Cell Block 6
Debut: 2016
Plunge into the twisted depths of a haunted prison, where inmates are racing against time to escape – before it’s too late.
The Great New Jersey prison housed the most devious and maniacal prisoners and the craziest guards who choose to keep watch over them. The prisoners were treated terribly by the guards for the delusional crimes they committed, locked in their empty cells with no reprieve for meals or yard time. They were angry but there was little they could do to fight the orders of the prison master.
On a stormy night during meal distribution, lightning struck the facility and caused a power outage throughout the building. The inmates rebelled against the staff, seeking revenge for their terrible treatment. They grabbed scalpels and scissors from the infirmary and roamed the halls of the prison. Every security guard and staff member was caught and tortured in the dark corridors.

Wicked Woods
Don't say we didn't warn you!
We are sure we're not the first ones to advise you against walking alone in the woods at night. The Wicked Woods got their name from the horrifying stories that take place within their sharp branches. Williams Woods had always been a hot topic of debate in Winston,
Named for Troy Williams who went missing there 50 years ago on a camping trip. His remains were hardly the only ones said to haunt the winding paths of brambles and branches. Through the years the area had become quite the legend, attracting more and more young people to challenge themselves and their friends to survive a night in the woods, something Troy had not done.
The campground had been deserted for years. After Troy mysteriously went missing, they had to shut down due to lack of visitation. The story of the way they'd found Troy: mangled, manipulated and destroyed spread across the newspapers around the state. Cause of death was never determined and no one or nothing was ever caught.
Every year, it is inevitable that a group of youngsters decides to camp out around Halloween. The fall air, leafless trees and bright moon serve as the best light all year in the otherwise pitch dark woods. Although no one has gone missing again, campers report terrible thumping, groaning and stomping noises, snapping branches and unsettled wildlife on their overnight stays. Some have even emerged with bloody knees and scraped hands, falling in their escape from whatever they claim was chasing them.
This year is the 50th anniversary of Troy Williams' disappearance. Take caution in the Wicked Woods, whatever got him may be looking to strike again this Halloween season.
The Manor
Location: The Golden Kingdom
Debut: 2013
"The manor on Jackson Street was the largest house on the block, but it was very run down. The previous owner, a scientist named Dr. Landon, had moved out years ago and the house was never revisited. As an eager young carpenter, Jeffrey bought the estate in the hopes of renovating the abandoned property to make it a beautiful home he could flip for a big profit.
Jeffrey entered the house to begin his construction project and found bloodstained walls, rodent and bug infestations, hundreds of old jars filled with mysterious substances, and rusty medical tools covered in cobwebs. He cleaned the mess and often worked overnight to complete his renovation. Sometimes he thought he heard heavy footsteps, tapping on walls, and muffled whispers, but his hammering, sawing, and drilling disguised the unusual sounds. Neighbors often complained about hearing Jeffrey’s construction tools in the middle of the night, but one night, they heard something completely different coming from the house—screams! They thought the carpenter had hurt himself so they rushed over to check on him, and found him lying dead in the kitchen with a nail through his heart.
As neighbors and police roamed the house for clues, lights began flickering and doors and windows were locked. Then, he appeared—the ghost of the previous homeowner. Dr. Landon had rarely had any visitors, but when he did, they disappeared, never to be seen again. Dr. Landon told the detectives, “We love visitors,” and continued, “but we hate when they try to leave.” The detectives were no exception, and shortly after entering the house became disoriented and lost and were never seen again. Now, at Six Flags Great Adventure, you can tour the classic mansion to explore the unfinished renovation and help find the other trapped zombie victims, but remember—even if you can find your way out, Dr. Landon won’t like it when you try to escape."
Big Top Terror: Forgotten Carnival in 3D
Stan and Deb couldn’t wait to finish out the college semester.
They were looking forward to a long, relaxing summer break. The last thing they expected was for their father to enlist them to help clean out grandma’s basement since she had just settled into her new accommodations at Shady Acres Nursing Home.
Deb remembered the posters they found in the basement of Grandma’s house and asked about them. Grandma’s eyes widened and she began to speak lucidly.
This particular carnival was home to the most tortured and mutilated species, both human and beast, she said. Animals and freaks alike ferociously yanked on their chains and gnashed their teeth against the rusting steel bars. She said an evil ringmaster named Malachy lost a bet with the devil, resulting in the banishment of his carnival to the netherworld. Grandma began to panic and begged the twins not to go because the ringmaster needed innocent souls to free his creatures and himself.

Blood Shed
In the hills of Los Angeles, Dr. Kenneth Reeves established himself as one of the leading cosmetic surgeons to the stars.
After decades of dealing with narcissistic, shallow people Dr. Reeves reached a breaking point when he reluctantly performed a patient’s fifth nose job. She claimed he botched the surgery by turning her nose up too far, giving her the look of a pig. Furious that he had permanently destroyed her beauty, she filed a malpractice lawsuit. Fed up he snapped and fled the City of Angels. The doctor headed across the country to the Appalachian Mountains where no one would find him.
Under a pseudonym, he purchased a large and remote piece of farmland to open a new sort of practice offering plastic surgery on the black market. Dr. Reeves placed ads in small, weekly newspapers to attract some new business. Anonymity was his new MO for discretion and to help keep his secret. Regardless of their vain requests, he had a sick plan for all of his new, unsuspecting patients.

Bone-Butcher Terror-Tory
Location: Frontier Adventures
"Bob was the most loved cowboy in the Old West. However, when he failed to capture the most-wanted criminal in the town, he was locked up in jail and stripped of his honorary title. One day, the sheriff passed Bob’s jail cell and found him hanging from the ceiling. The doctors proclaimed him dead, and he was buried the next day in the western cemetery.

One night, the night guard heard a tapping coming from the graveyard. He roamed the area with his flashlight, and the pounding got louder when he approached Bob’s grave. After a few moments, this cowboy zombie sprung from his grave. He was vengeful on all the local townspeople who deprived his reputation and buried him alive. With a giant meat cleaver in his band, Bob attacked the security guard, gouging his eyes, tearing off his limbs, and breaking every bone in his body. His horrifying acts, which had prompted the townsfolk to nickname him “Bad Bob the Bone Butcher,” continued as he freed all the undead from their graves, and these western zombies run rampant in Frontier Adventures seeking revenge on all the humans who put them in the ground."

"Lulu loved his job as a clown in the local circus. He enjoyed making the audience smile, and the other performers loved his friendly attitude. When producers decided to cut the budget, the beloved clown was let go. He was responsible for making people laugh, and he didn’t believe people could have fun without him.

Devastated and angry, Lulu craved revenge on anyone still having fun. He was going to prove that the circus would be a complete disaster without his silly antics. During the next nightly performance, Lulu made his move. Just as the sword swallower was finishing his routine, the spotlights flickered and came crashing down to the ground, crushing the performers. The whole tent went pitch dark. A creepy clown laugh came over the sound system and announced that audience members were about to have the “fright of their life.” He used a glow necklace to scope out the area and found that all the circus performers lied dead in a puddle of blood in the center of the venue.

With the clown’s devilish smirk glowing in the light, audience members raced for the exits, only to find that the tent had been tied shut. There was no way out. Lulu entered the center ring, picked up the knives from the sword swallower’s performance, and starting tossing them around the tent, plunging through the heart of anyone in its way. After his murder spree, Lulu escaped through a back exit and was never seen again.

A few years later, a new traveling circus came to town and decided to set up on the lot of the previous tent. People often reported seeing a maniacal clown hanging around the area, trying to entertain guests with his silly clown costume and zany humor. Once encountered, Lulu goes out of his way to end their fun—and often their lives."

The Bloody Fountain
Location:
 Main Street
"Six Flags Great Adventure was built on top of an old graveyard. One day, park guests suddenly started disappearing. They were seen roaming the streets around town, but their minds just weren’t with them. They were empty inside and totally entranced.

It all started when Eric Yeager, a soldier in the Continental Army, rose from his grave below the park. He traveled in search of food, but the park’s burgers, chicken tenders, and pizza didn’t sound appetizing. Instead, Eric grabbed an unsuspecting passerby, tore his skull open, and feasted on his brains. This person joined him on his quest for brains, and the zombie infection began.

Now with a troop of over 30 in his brigade, the zombies roam the streets of the park. They can’t control themselves, and these blood-thirsty creatures in blue and red coats are hungry for their next meal. They often split up, biting into anyone that gets in their way. As they wander around the Liberty Fountain and Main Street, they can’t wait to feast on living guests who pass too close."

Lady of the Lake Cemetery
Guinevere was a humble young woman who loved to walk along the lake front in the evening. She loved everything about it, the sights, the smells, the sounds and the view of the moon through the mist and the trees. She used it as her time to get away from her large family and dreamed of meeting a man and moving to a big city.
One evening, on her usually quiet walk, she encountered a very handsome man. He introduced himself and asked if he could join her on he walk. She agreed and they walked and talked for hours. Each night, they met at the lake and talked about the futures they imagined and getting out of New Jersey to see the world. After months of their courtship, the young man proposed marriage to Guinevere and she squealed in excitement. Why wait? They decided they would be married in secret the next evening under the full moon along the lake.
The ceremony was beautiful and quiet, just as they planned. However, when the clock struck midnight, something strange began to happen. Guinevere stared in horror as her new husband began to transform into a monster right before her eyes. Could it be that he was the real Jersey Devil? She had heard stories and rumors but never thought it to be true. Now it was all happening so fast and she was so terrified and distraught she turned and ran into the lake to escape the predator. The only problem was that Guinevere could not swim. The Jersey Devil brought her to her demise that night and ever since, her spirit haunts the lake front. In the 200 years since this fateful night, the lake front has been turned into a graveyard. Mourning families looking to honor the dead under the full moon report sightings and eerie happenings throughout the area. Will you brave the walk along the shore that forever belongs to Guinevere?
Demon District
The charming cobblestone streets, detailed stonework and pristine landscaping of this once-idyllic town are just a distant memory.
All of the major film studios all packed up and left at the first sign of trouble. The beautiful starlets who once flocked to this place with the hopes of “making it big” packed up their suitcases and hopped the first bus out of town. If they could see it now, they would all be glad they left when they did.
Who can say how it really started? The overcrowding of prisons. Lack of institutional funding. A society that accepts no blame or consequence. Moral decay. Contemplating how such a thing could have happened is probably wasted thought. What matters now is figuring out how to survive the total mayhem, now that it has happened.
The first key is never venturing out after dark. The beautiful streetlamps were replaced by green searchlights and sharp laser beams – they certainly do not provide enough light to see what might be lurking ahead, or behind. Or maybe even above. And the fog enshrouds everything. As if this place wasn’t already creepy enough.
The second key is knowing what to do if you are unfortunate enough to encounter one of them. Some say to stand still and lifeless until they pass by or lose interest, others say run as fast as you can because being caught ensures your demise. The truth is that it depends on which one finds you…

RIP Haunts

Asylum
Type: Haunted House
"The Great New Jersey Asylum housed the most precise lobotomy doctors, the most understanding therapists, and the most insane patients. The residents felt like they were treated like prisoners, locked in their empty rooms most of the day and forced to follow strict schedules. They became angry and often looked for ways to riot against the staff.

On a stormy night during a group therapy session, a lightning strike hit the facility and caused a power outage throughout the building. All the lights went dark, computer systems crashed, and automatic room locks opened, giving all the patients a chance to overpower the workers and escape.
The inmates rebelled against the staff, seeking revenge for locking them up in the clinic. They grabbed scalpels and scissors from the operating rooms and roamed the halls of the asylum. Every therapist, doctor, security guard, and staff member was caught and tortured in the dark corridors. The maniacs sliced into their faces and bodies as blood sprayed along the walls and pooled on the floor.
Some staff members died from their pain and wounds, while others were left permanently disfigured. All the murderous psychiatric residents managed to escape to the theme park across the street. Some people believe they still wander the property, searching for “normal” people to attack, dissect, or disfigure.
In the past, guests have wandered the corridors of our very own Asylum and fought through a wave of lunatics as they searched for an escape. But now, in some strange and inexplicable feat of teleportation, when guests walk through the Asylum’s entrance, they will be entering the surreal, nightmarish MIND of a lunatic.
The corridors of this poor soul’s mind are no less labyrinthine than the asylum itself. Guests will find it populated not by lunatics, but by nightmares. Twisted and surreal demons wander the corridors of this nightmare and wish to drag them down into the depths of its stygian darkness forever; into the worst nightmare you could ever imagine and one you can never awake from.
Doctors are now devils wishing to slice and dice and perform surgical atrocities on these trespassers. The faces of any nurses they encounter will be a twisted mound of flesh as if the nurse herself is made entirely from a malevolent and malignant cancer. Every twisted turn and corridor holds a new nightmarish creature! Will they escape the crushing gears of this lunatic’s mind? Or will they forever be trapped?"

The Wasteland
Debut: 2013
Type Haunted House
"Six Flags botanical engineers have been diligently working on new breeds of plant life to populate our “Demented Forest.” But, as has often been proven, there are some things with which man should not tamper.
The new experimental growth hormones (or the chemicals involved in their production) have had some unintended effects not only on the flora, but the fauna as well.
Dan Williams was a business developer who was looking for a huge profit. He came across a beautiful, hearty patch of trees and knew the chemically-engineered plants provided a lucrative opportunity. He was determined to start his own genetically-engineered forest by stealing some of the saplings without the botanical engineers’ knowledge.
One evening as he was digging, his lantern flickered and went out. He was working by the light of the moon and suddenly heard the rustling of leaves and howling, almost moaning, in the distance. Before he could gather his tools, he felt something strong bearing down upon him. He scrambled to his feet and mustered every ounce of strength to run from this unknown entity.
He ran through the thick, leafy foliage and began feeling a wetness on his face and clothing, and then a burning sensation. Too afraid to stop, he pushed on. A vine caught his ankle and he fell to the ground. He had face-planted into a lumpy puddle of bright green ooze. As he got back on his feet, he looked down to find two dead Six Flags botanists — lying mutilated in the ooze.
Horrified, he began to run again. As the forest seemed to grow deeper and darker, he saw them drawing near…scientists who had gotten too exposed to the forest’s chemical waste and now the flesh was dripping off of their bones. The moaning sound he heard earlier was the mutilated botanists wandering the forest in agony. In the distance, he saw the decontamination area — the only thing standing between his life and a ghastly death. The pain from his melting skin became almost unbearable as he was surrounded.
No one knows whether he survived, or if his exposure to the Wasteland turned him into another horrific mutation."

Straw-Man Stalkers
Type:
 Scare Zone
Location: The Lakefront
Debut: 2013
"Generally the scarecrows are the ones protecting the crops from the birds. But where do you turn when you’re the one who needs protecting from the scarecrows? The Lakefront Farm was always a quiet one, providing the freshest seasonal fruits and vegetables. The holidays were a time of pumpkins and cider, and the children always loved running in and out of the rows of corn that seemed to go on forever.

When the corn started going missing however, the farm had the local sheriff’s office patrol the fields at night to try and catch a glimpse of the culprit. A week went by and the deputy saw nothing out of the ordinary and no corn went missing. Then, on a chilly Sunday morning the farm hand arrived to open the shop and was greeted by the deputy, murdered and hanging like a scarecrow on a post. The farm was closed for the rest of the season and they never caught the person who had been stealing.

Every year since then, the farm operates as normal and the children still run up and down the aisles of corn, but as soon as it turns dusk everyone heads home. It’s been said that as soon as darkness falls the spirit of the deputy haunts the corn fields, angry over his demise and continually hunting the thief who killed him."

Voodoo Island
Debut: 2012
Type: Haunted House
"Twenty unlucky people were cast for TV’s newest reality show. The competitors would be living on a secluded island without food, shelter, and outside communication. After two days on the island, the contestants ran into group of locals who lived on the island. They begged the locals for help gathering food and supplies, and they agreed, but only because they wanted these trespassers off their land.
Things around camp started getting strange. An unexpected thunderstorm flooded the camp and destroyed their supplies. A pack of angry scorpions raided the area and ruined their food supply. Rats chewed a hole in their tent. Several castaways went missing, a pile of human bones was found scattered along the beach, and the ocean water used for bathing turned bloody.
The worst incident happened during the third week on the island. One of the contestants broke out in painful lesions and a horrible illness after the locals placed a curse on his body. He was sleeping under the canopy, when a local tribe member approached him. The local smashed his head in with a rock, busting open his skull and leaving a pile of blood and brains lying in the dirt. Another castaway witnessed the murder and ran to tell the others, but during her escape, she tripped over a root in the ground and fell face-first into the fire, burning alive.
In the end, every contestant was beaten, eaten, or burned to death. Travel the path of this reality show gone wrong, but be careful not to cross the revengeful locals."
